Pillar Blog: How to Find the Best Concord Realtor: The Complete 2026 Guide to Choosing an Agent Who Actually Gets You Results
Every Concord realtor you look up online seems to have a 5.0 rating.
Every headshot is smiling, and every review says some version of “highly recommend!” So how are you supposed to tell the agent who will get your home sold for top dollar from the one who was simply pleasant to work with?
The truth is that online reviews are one of the most useful tools you have for finding the right Concord real estate agent, but only if you know how to read them. Star ratings tell you very little. The real information is in the details, the patterns and what’s missing.
This guide shows you how to read between the lines. It’s part of my complete resource, How to Find the Best Concord Realtor: The Complete 2026 Guide, which walks you through the entire process of choosing an agent.
The Problem: Star Ratings All Look the Same
When you search “best realtor in Concord,” you’ll see dozens of agents with nearly perfect scores. That makes the stars almost useless for comparison.
Many sellers do what feels natural. They pick the agent with the most five-star reviews, or they skim the first three and call it done. That’s how homeowners end up with an agent who was friendly and responsive but who underpriced the home, missed marketing opportunities or folded during negotiations.
Underneath that is a worse feeling. You’re afraid of choosing wrong and not finding out until it’s too late. When you’re already handling a downsize, an estate or a divorce, you don’t have room for that kind of mistake.
You deserve to see the whole picture of an agent’s work, not just the highlight reel.
The Guide: Why I Want You to Read My Reviews Carefully
I’m Ron Melvin, a licensed Realtor (DRE #01927543) with the East Bay Real Estate Team at Keller Williams, serving Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Martinez and Brentwood.
I tell every seller the same thing: don’t just count my stars. Read what my clients actually say. Then read other agents’ reviews the same way. The method below works on any agent, including me.
The Plan: 6 Ways to Read Realtor Reviews Like a Pro
1. Look for Specifics, Not Compliments
“Ron was great!” feels good, but it doesn’t tell you much. Compare it to this: “Our home had been sitting with another agent. Ron repriced it, restaged the living room and we had three offers in nine days.”
The second review tells you what the agent did and what happened. Look for reviews that mention:
- pricing strategy and how close the sale came to (or above) list price,
- days on market,
- marketing, staging or preparation advice,
- how the agent handled inspections, appraisals or tough negotiations.
Warmth matters, but results are what put money in your pocket.
2. Find Reviews From Sellers in Your Situation
A review from a first-time condo buyer tells you very little about how an agent handles a family estate sale.
If you’re downsizing, look for downsizers. If you’re selling after a divorce or through probate, look for reviews that mention those words. An agent who has handled your kind of transition knows the timelines, the emotions and the paperwork, and their past clients will say so.
3. Check Recency and Volume Together
Twenty detailed reviews from the last two years tell a stronger story than 60 reviews from a decade ago followed by silence.
- Recent reviews show that the agent is actively selling in today’s market.
- Steady volume over time suggests consistent work rather than a single busy year.
- Long gaps may mean the agent is part-time or has shifted focus, which is worth asking about.
4. Read the Bad Reviews, and Read the Response
A 4.8 rating with a thoughtful reply to a 3-star review can be more reassuring than a flawless 5.0.
No agent pleases everyone. What matters is how they respond when something goes wrong. Pay attention to whether the agent:
- replies calmly and professionally,
- takes responsibility where it’s warranted,
- explains what happened without blaming the client.
A defensive or dismissive reply shows you how that agent is likely to act under pressure, which is exactly when you’ll need them most.
5. Watch for Patterns That Don’t Add Up
Some review profiles raise questions. Be cautious if you see:
- a burst of reviews posted within the same week or two,
- short, generic reviews that all sound alike,
- praise focused only on personality (“so nice!”) with no mention of outcomes,
- a strong rating on one platform and a noticeably different picture on another.
Team reviews deserve a second look, too. Many agents, including me, work on teams. Check whether a review names the agent you’d actually be working with, and ask in your interview who will handle your listing day to day.
6. Cross-Check Across Platforms
A reputation holds up when it’s consistent everywhere. Compare what clients say on Google, Zillow, Yelp and Facebook. If you see the same themes on different platforms from different people, you can trust the pattern.
You can run this test on me right now: my Google reviews, Zillow, Yelp and Facebook.
Quick answer for busy sellers: To judge Concord realtor reviews, look past the star rating. Prioritize recent, detailed reviews that describe results (price, days on market, negotiation). Look for sellers in situations like yours, read how the agent responds to negative feedback, watch for suspicious patterns, and compare reviews across Google, Zillow, Yelp and Facebook.
Reviews Are Step Two, Not the Whole Plan
Reviews show you how an agent has treated past clients. They don’t show you whether the agent is licensed and in good standing, or whether they’re the right fit for you.
Before you read reviews, confirm the agent is properly licensed. My DRE lookup guide to verifying a Concord realtor’s license shows you how in about 60 seconds.
After you read reviews, meet your finalists in person, and meet more than once. Bring the patterns you noticed into the room. If a review praised an agent’s pricing strategy, ask them to walk you through how they’d price your home. My list of 10 questions to ask before hiring a Concord realtor will keep the conversation focused, and this short video covers the 3 questions to ask before hiring a Concord realtor.
Keep your eyes open for the warning signs that reviews can’t always reveal. My guide on how to spot a bad Concord realtor before you sign covers the red flags sellers most often miss.
What’s at Stake If You Trust the Stars Alone
Choosing an agent based on a rating alone can mean hiring someone whose strengths don’t match your needs. That can lead to an overpriced listing that goes stale or an underpriced one that leaves money on the table. It can also mean an agent who disappears when the inspection report arrives, or one who has never handled an estate or divorce sale and learns on your home.
Those mistakes cost Concord sellers real money and months of stress.
What Success Looks Like
Picture sitting across from an agent and already knowing, from dozens of real client stories, how they price, how they market and how they handle pressure. You know they’ve helped families in your exact situation. And you’ve tested what you read in a face-to-face conversation.
That’s what it means to find a Concord realtor with confidence instead of hope.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find reviews for a Concord realtor?
Check Google, Zillow, Yelp and Facebook. Comparing all four gives you the most complete and reliable picture.
Is a perfect 5.0 rating a good sign?
Not necessarily. Detail, recency and how an agent handles criticism tell you more than the number itself.
How many reviews should a good Concord real estate agent have?
There isn’t a magic number. Look for a steady flow of recent, detailed reviews rather than a large total spread across many years.
Should I trust reviews for a realtor who works on a team?
Yes, but check which team member each review mentions, and confirm in your interview who will personally handle your sale.
